Life Cycle – Most insects go through several distinct changes during their lifetimes. These changes constitute their life cycle. The life cycle of the beetle family and the moth-butterfly family are classically illustrated:
The beetles are frequently destructive in both larva and adult stages. Pest control is, therefore, frequently directed at both stages. The butterfly and moth are destructive only in the larva stage.
Some insects’ life cycles are simple. The earwig, for instance, looks like an earwig when it hatches. It merely grows and becomes more mature. Aphids’ life cycles vary from species to species and according to the place and the time of year. In some species in some locations, there are two sexes; in other species and locations, the aphid is bisexual.
